Popular Indian actress Alia Bhatt made her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, whose pictures quickly spread across social media platforms.

Bhatt’s fans lauded her for grace and simplicity, proving that high fashion looks do not necessitate over-the-top experimental styling.

Alia Bhatt, along with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) director Ashutosh Gowariker, represented India at the Cannes Film Festival.

Bhatt is appearing at Cannes for the second time after her 2025 debut.

Alia Bhatt wore Tamara Ralph’s peach gown decked with a curved bustier neckline, styled by Rhea Kapoor.

Bhatt is the ambassador of the global cosmetics brand L’Oréal Paris.

The gown was a close-fitted bodice with strapless corset, elevating her beauty.

Bhatt’s jewellery included a gemstone neck piece with matching earrings.

She also styled the chiffon fabric in a dupatta-inspired drape, creating an Indo-Western look for the red carpet.

French Riviera Look

Before her magnanimous red carpet appearance, Bhatt went to the streets of French Riviera in a custom ball gown by designer Yash Patil.

According to a press release, Bhatt’s ball gown was “inspired by the iconic silhouettes of the 1950s, featuring a structured bodice with angular cups, a drop waist, and a voluminous skirt layered with ombre-dyed silk organza and tulle. The look seamlessly blends vintage couture with modern elegance.”

This gown was hand painted by artist Basuri Chokshi, who expressed her happiness on Bhatt’s look, saying, “Brought me a lot of joy to see Alia wearing it. The dress was hand-painted and constructed in India.”

Day 2 in Desi Glam

For her second day at Cannes, Alia Bhatt opted for a full desi glam look, wearing a beige saree with a nose-pin, bindi and haath-phool. She epitomises the perfect blend of elegance and charm, while slaying with a touch of Indian tradition.

The outfit also featured a tailor-made umbrella for Bhatt, enhancing her overall appearance.

On Day 2, she styled this look for the inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, where she was joined by Ashutosh Gowariker.

Questions Male-Centric Indian Cinema

Alia Bhatt’s Cannes looks are not the only thing being talked about on social media. She also challenged the male-dominance which persists in the Indian cinema at Cannes. She pointed out that the movies in India are created to cater to the male audiences.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Bhatt remarked, “But in India, when we talk about box office and numbers, there is a conversation that comes up pretty often, which is 75% of the movie-going audience is male, so we need to cater to the masses. This conversation comes up quite a bit. I wonder if we are catering just to the men, then what happens to the women?”

Furthermore, she suggests that film plots should be gender-agnostic, letting the story shine, where she said, “Why do we have to cater to one gender? Why can’t we make movies that are gender-agnostic, where the storytelling takes centre stage?”

Skincare Secrets Spilled

Spilling tea about her beauty secrets, Bhatt told the Marie Claire France in her interview that beauty starts from the gut. She credits ghee for her healthy skin on being asked about her skin snack.

She told that ghee is “great, it’s great for the gut, it’s great for the skin. There’s this snack that I have, it’s basically ghee with a little bit of jaggery, some crushed peanuts and a little bit of coconut. It’s a skin snack; I have it so that my skin looks great, and genuinely, it works. It really works.”
