Farewell, Bhau: Legendary Actor Nana Patekar Passes Away At 75

Veteran actor and Bollywood star Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday (October 8) following a cardiac arrest. He was found unconscious at his Goa home, after which he was immediately taken to a private hospital. Despite repeated CPR for nearly 45 minutes, the acclaimed actor could not survive and was pronounced dead at 5:20 am.

The doctors at Manipal Hospital confirmed that the death occurred due to a cardiac arrest but the exact reason is still undetermined. As per Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, Patekar was brought to the hospital between 4:20 am and 4:30 am, however, he was brought dead.

Dr. Salkar further informed that a medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered and the body of Nana Patekar has been sent to the Goa Medical College for post-mortem examination.

The legendary actor, originally named Vishwanath Patekar, was known for his intense and remarkable performances in the Indian cinema. His iconic films include but are not limited to ‘Natsamrat’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Parinda’, ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’, ‘Prahaar’ and ‘Welcome’.

Patekar was bestowed with the Padma Shri award in 2013, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, for his exemplary contribution to the Indian cinema and arts. Throughout his celebrated career, he had also been awarded three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards and two Maharashtra State Film Awards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled Patekar’s death, writing on X, “Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had. He brought remarkable versatility and creativity to every role and gave us characters that will be remembered for generations.”

Prime Minister further highlighted the actor’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema, and stated, “His passing leaves a deep void. My condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti.”
