In a rare medical case, a Muslim woman, Amina (31), delivered quadruplets-two boys and two
girls, in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Hailing from UP’s Sambhal district, Amina’s pregnancy with four fetuses was detected early-on,
after which she was under close supervision by the doctors at Teerthanker Mahaveer University
(TMU) Hospital in Moradabad.
A rare normal delivery for quadruplet pregnancy
The woman gave birth via a normal delivery at the TMU Hospital, with her delivery spanning a
period of five days, stunning doctors and medical practitioners.
Her first baby was born on May 9, with three other infants born on May 14, without needing Csection delivery, a rarity in quadruplet pregnancy.
According to Dr. Shubhra Agrawal, who led the medical team, an expert team of doctors looked
after Amina’s pregnancy and her delivery. She also mentioned that, “the biggest challenges were
premature delivery and low weight birth”, so, the medical team had delayed the delivery of the
rest of the fetuses to prevent any complications
First born passed away
However, Amina’s first born child could not survive. As per Dr. MP Singh, the Dean Students’
Welfare of TMU, owing to the premature delivery and low birth weight, the first born tragically
passed away.
He also informed that the other two infants are under special observation while one infant is
healthy and breastfeeding.
Amina is married to Muhammad Alim, wherein they got married two years ago. Both own a
grocery shop.
A rarest of rare medical case
A quadruplet normal delivery is extremely rare given that it only occurs in 1 in 7,00,000
pregnancies. Further, over 90% cases of quadruplets are born through a Cesarean section (Csection).
Thus, Amina’s case is an exceptional example for the hospital and an extraordinary achievement
for the doctors who oversaw her pregnancy.
