
As per the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the year 2024, Uttar Pradesh has registered a crime rate of 180.2 cases per lakh population, which is 28.5% lower than the national average, highlighting a dramatic plunge in serious crimes and offences in the state.
In overall crime rate as well, the state stood at 21st place in the country.
A total of 35,44,608 criminal cases were filed across the country in 2024, with national number of 252.3 cases per lakh population.
Maharashtra, on the other hand, recorded a higher crime rate of 300 cases per lakh population, despite having half the population of UP.
UP’s law and order transformation comes due to use of crackdowns on organised crimes, better filing of charge sheets which stood at a rate of 76.7% and use of technology in policing.
