In a major development in Bhopal’s Twisha Sharma death case, her husband Samarth Singh has
surrendered in the Jabalpur Court on May 22, and is detained in police custody, with his arrest
expected soon. Samarth Singh, an advocate, is accused of mental torture, humiliation and dowry
harassment of his wife Twisha Sharma, leading to her death on May 12.
Singh surrendered after absconding for 10 days, post withdrawing his anticipatory bail in Madhya
Pradesh High Court.

Twisha’s death has sent shock waves through the country, igniting public anger against dowry
deaths, with two more dowry killings reported in India, within days, of 24-year-old Deepika Nagar
and 21-year-old Palak Rajak.

A mysterious death of Twisha Sharma

Originally from Noida, married to Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025, Twisha
Sharma, 33, was a model-turned-actress, jubilant, with eyes full of life. She was found dead on
May 12, at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal’s Katara Hills.

Twisha’s family has levelled allegations of mental and physical abuse, dowry harassment and
abetment to suicide against their daughter’s mother-in-law and her husband.

Twisha’s death is shrouded in mystery, as alleged by her parents, where her first post-mortem
report showed the death caused by “antemortem hanging by ligature”, implying that Twisha was
alive when she was hanged by a binding material, which was reportedly missing in the evidence.
The report also indicated “multiple antemortem injuries”, which are bruises over her body before
hanging. Her family has also cited lapses in the conduct of the post-mortem examination and
interference in police investigation.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has allowed a second post-mortem of Twisha by a team of
doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, agreeing to her parents’ plea.

In addition, Twisha’s conversation with her family, shared on WhatsApp, is under spotlight, where
she accused her husband and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judge, of subjecting her to
constant harassment. As per her WhatsApp chats, the husband and mother-in-law were mentally
disturbing Twisha to such an extent, that she called her life a “living hell” and felt “extremely
suffocated”.

Twisha Sharma’s brother Major Harshit Sharma’s press conference

Twisha Sharma’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma has held a press conference asking stern questions on the delayed investigation in her sister’s death case.

He said, “It took us more than three days to get the FIR registered. Our FIR was finally lodged on the 15th at 2:30 in the morning. Even before that, their anticipatory bail application had already been filed. It all appears to be a well-orchestrated effort from their side,” referring to Twisha’s in-laws.

Sharma further continued, “We are here to question the process. The first call made to the police was made by us, not by them. They claimed that they were in a hurry trying to save her. However, the video that has resurfaced clearly shows Girbala Singh moving around very calmly, walking up and down the stairs as if she had all the time in the world.”

The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the case.

Also, the police has moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court for cancelling Giribala Singh’s anticipatory bail, that was granted earlier.
