A major terror plot, targeting Delhi and Mumbai, was thwarted by the Delhi Police Special Cell on May 30.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police intercepted 9 operatives allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Dawood Ibrahim, the underworld don.
Both Delhi and Mumbai have been put on high alert following the arrests, where the operatives were believed to carry out attacks on critical facilities, security officials and places of religious importance, as allegedly directed by Pakistani handlers.
Initial Investigation
In sustained cross-border attempts by Pakistan to fuel domestic disturbance in India, the 9 perpetrators arrested by the Delhi Police are allegedly supported and funded by ISI, which also involves members from Mumbai underworld, backed by Dawood Ibrahim’s network.
The 9 arrested belong to various states across India, including some operatives from Nepal.
Some of the accused are reportedly from Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi.
Recoveries
The Delhi Police Special Cell has recovered stockpiles of ammunition, explosives and hand grenades from the 9 suspects.
This points to a large-scale terror attack being planned on major Indian cities, highlighting Pakistan’s state-sponsored terror campaign against India.
In addition, authorities are investigating the funding route and other possible operatives linked to the ISI-backed terror module.
D-Company’s Salim Dola Caught Earlier
On April 28 this year, in a major triumph for Indian authorities, Salim Dola, drug lord and senior leader of Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company, was successfully deported to India.
This will help authorities to uncover the operational structure of D-Company’s narcotics network and its financial trail.
Further details are expected soon as the investigation continues to unravel the details of the terror module.
