Phase 2 Records Strong Voter Turnout

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections Phase 2 has recorded a strong voter turnout of 89.99% till 5 PM.

Top Districts by Turnout

As per the Election Commission of India, district-wise turnout (till 5 PM) is as follows:

1. Purba Bardhaman: 92.46%
2. Hooghly: 90.34%
3. Nadia: 90.28%
4. North 24 Parganas: 89.74%
5. Howrah: 89.44%

So far, the highest turnout has been recorded in several key districts.

Phase 2 Covers 142 Seats

Phase 2 polling is being held for 142 out of 294 seats, with voting taking place on April 29.

Phase 1 polling, conducted on April 23, covered 152 seats and recorded a turnout of 91.78%, the highest since Independence.

Political Showdown in West Bengal

The elections mark a high-stakes contest between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the main opposition, Suvendu Adhikari-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Calcutta High Court Upholds ECI Restrictions

Earlier this week, the Calcutta High Court upheld the Election Commission’s decision to restrict motorbike rallies and group motorbiking for 48 hours, until the conclusion of Phase 2 polling, to ensure secure, free, and fair voting.

Counting Date Announced

The counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on May 4.
