I drank more than I should have, and I regret it”.’Dhurandhar’ singer Jasmine Sandlas on her struggle with alcohol addiction

Jasmine Sandlas

On a recent podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, Jasmine Sandlas, the singer behind Dhurandhar hits-“Shararat”, “Main Aur Tu”, “Jaiye Sajna”, has revealed about her battle with alcoholism which started when was 23.

She shares that alcohol consumption was a temporary escape from her struggles and childhood trauma where she grew up in a home with emotionally unregulated parents. She says “I had some heartbreaks in childhood from my parents. I love them, but when a child’s heart breaks, it remains broken. When you don’t have a safe space to run to, you look for a home in everything like crazy. I did that all my life, just yearning and finding home.” She also described her loneliness and internal struggles with seeking validation: “It all looks wonderful from outside, expensive liquor, people laughing, there were always people around me, but I used to sit on the balcony alone. There was a lot of loneliness in that crowd, but I didn’t know what to do or where else to go”.

Her path to overcoming alcoholism

Sandlas credits her family, especially her mother on her recovery journey: “My mom and my family really helped me in that [recovery], they loved me through my rock bottoms. My biggest fight was with myself”. She also explained the importance of deep prayer in her recovery: “I prayed so much to God, please save me, just give me one more chance” The 40-year old started her music journey in 2008 and gave multiple hits like “Illegal Weapon”, ” Yaar Na Miley”, besides Dhurandhar.
