The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declares rainfall alert in Mumbai, city is now under Orange alert from yellow
This year, various parts of the country witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfalls, and in Mumbai, the monsoon is approaching 10 days before the usual time of arrival. This year Mumbai is witnessing the earliest monsoon since 1990, which is 35 years.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the governing body of Mumbai, has informed us that this year, the city has recorded 37mm of rainfall, and the Eastern Suburb received 15 mm. The total pre-monsoon showers recorded in the March starting were 295 mm at Santacruz.
“We had expected the monsoon to set in after two days, but the rainy season has already started owing to the rainfall in the Konkan areas and the neighboring district of Raigad, which also led to Colaba recording heavy rainfall today,” said Sushma Nair, scientist at IMD.
According to the forecast, Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg will also receive heavy rainfall.
