In a shocking turn of events, Jasbir Singh, a well-known YouTuber from Punjab with a massive following of over a million subscribers, has been arrested on serious charges of espionage. Authorities claim he was passing sensitive information to Pakistan and has links to Jyoti Malhotra, believed to be connected to a larger Pakistani spy network. The case has sent shockwaves through the common public who literally worship these influencers and raised major concerns about digital influencers being used as tools in international espionage.
Jasbir reportedly tried to cover his tracks by deleting all traces of his communication with these Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) after Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest, in what appears to be a desperate attempt to dodge the investigation.
Jasbir Singh is allegedly connected to Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO) Shakir, also known by the alias Jatt Randhawa, a key figure in an espionage network reportedly backed by terrorist groups. Investigators say Jasbir was also in regular contact with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, a Pakistani national and former staffer of the Pakistani High Commission who was expelled for suspicious activities. Additionally, Jasbir maintained communication with Jyoti Malhotra, another YouTuber currently in custody on similar espionage charges.
“Investigations have uncovered that Jasbir Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi at the invitation of Danish, where he came into contact with Pakistani Army officials and vloggers,” said the DGP of Punjab Police. “He also traveled to Pakistan three times—in 2020, 2021, and most recently in 2024. His electronic devices were found to contain several Pakistan-based numbers, which are now undergoing detailed forensic analysis.”
As disturbing links to Pakistan-based handlers, expelled High Commission staffers, and even known terrorists emerge, this case is fast becoming a wake-up call about the digital warfare and info warfare spies infiltration threatening Bharat from within.
Recently, a well known YouTuber Elvish Yadav was invited to give a speech to UPSC Civil Services trainees. These trainees are to become highest ranking officials in the country in the future. A speech from a YouTuber, whose only shot to fame is making funny/cringe/low IQ videos, to IAS trainees reflects the level of impact the digital influencers have on the psyche of our country in general, and the youth in specific.
This needs to change, else the day is not far when people with average IQ and high cringe quotient will be dictating the country’s future, where everything will be decided based on “Like, Share and Comment” methodology.
