Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gujarat on May 26, 2025, included a number of events that signalled national pride and commercial opportunity. The day began with a roadshow in Vadodara, where Colonel Sofiya Qureshi’s family (including her twin sister Shyana Sunesara) joined thousands to welcome the Prime Minister. Shyana described her pride in Operation Sindoor, a remarkable achievement by women that incurred no losses. She remarked on the different atmosphere, “It wasn’t fear that gripped the nation – it felt SPECIAL seeing PM Modi.

On arrival, PM Modi met with Gujarat state Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi at the airport to discuss the state development programs that totalled over Rs 82,500 crore. The occasion was part of a two-day trip, in which the PM was highlighting that Gujarat is at the forefront of India’s development drive and highlighting his plans to launch public programs in Gujarat during the trip.

Aspects surrounding the state’s strategic importance were continued in Dahod, where PM Modi unveiled India’s first 9000 HP locomotive engine, which became a significant milestone under the “Make in India” initiative. The state-of-the-art facility investment was over Rs 20,000 crore and is expected to produce 1,200 new engines annually. The facility will be a huge milestone for giant freight trains and will help make India a world supplier of railway and its wagons. The new locomotive will have the capacity for around 4,600 tonnes, with modern air conditioned rooms, collision avoidance systems, and all in India, which is hoped to be a real cue for indigenous rail manufacturing.

The visit included the unveiling of two new trains onboard a video conferencing link from Dahod – the Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express that’ll connect to the famous Somnath temple and the Valsad-Dahod Express, improving regional connectivity. The visit also broughtfour drinking water improvement schemes worth Rs 181 crore, which will benefit 4.62 lakh people in Mahisagar and Dahod districts. Coming back to the overall visit while opening projects worth Rs 82,000 crore over two days, Apart from this enormous outlay on infrastructure which included investments in Kandla Port, solar plants, Sabarmati River Front and more, the doubled number of housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana rose to
22055 in Gujarat, with Rs 3,330 crore urban development package launched to support neighbouring states as well. This day in Gujarat was not just about launching a locomotive but celebrating resilience, innovation, and the spirit of “Viksit Bharat.”
