Will Europe arrest Israel PM Netanyahu?

Israeli PM is in Hungary to meet his counterpart Viktor Orbán! ICC issued Arrest warrant issued on 21 November 2024.

His chargesheet and arrest order as per ICC is presented as-Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, born on 21 October 1949, Prime Minister of Israel at the time of the relevant conduct.

Allegedly responsible for the war crimes of starvation as a method of warfare and of
intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population; and the crimes against humanity
of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts from at least 8 October 2023 until at least 20

At large Situation Name Colloquial State of Palestine Hungary, a founding ICC member, is theoretically obliged to arrest and hand over anyone subject to a warrant from the court. However, Prime Minister Viktor Orban made clear it would not respect the ruling.

Hungary’s government has announced its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC),
just before Prime Minister Viktor Orban received his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu,
the subject of an ICC arrest warrant.

Hague-based ICC, the world’s only permanent global tribunal for war crimes and genocide. Unlike national courts, which use their domestic police to enforce arrest warrants, international
courts rely on the justice systems of their member states to detain and transfer suspects; the
ICC does not have its own police force.As one of 125 member states of the International
Criminal Court, Hungary is legally obliged to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
upon his arrival in Budapest and transfer him directly to The Hauge .It is obligatory for any ICC
member to carry out an arrest warrant, however, Hungarian lawmakers have said that although
the country signed the ICC’s founding document in 1999 and ratified it in 2001, it was never
made part of Hungarian lawThe Hague-based court has criticised Hungary’s decision to defy its
warrant for Netanyahu. The court’s spokesperson, Fadi El Abdallah, said that it is not for parties
to the ICC “to unilaterally determine the soundness of the Court’s legal decisions”.
